Walnut Creek Country Club has a tradition of offering one of the best menu's you'll find in the area. Our full-time Chef regularly offers a wide variety of offerings in addition to providing those items specifically requested by our members.
Our Chef Scot Elden, a native Kinstonian, brings with him a love for eclectic American cuisine with southern flair. Scot graduated from Johnson and Wales University in Charleston, South Carolina. While attending culinary school, he obtained on-hands training at Charleston’s famous Carolina’s restaurant. The fine dining restaurant is well known for their low country food with Pacific Rim and American Novelle cuisine. After graduating from Johnson and Wales, Scot took a position under Chef Michael Gatz, CIA graduate, at Café Blu at The Inn on the Blue Horizon in Vieques, Puerto Rico. With the Inn being considered ‘one of the top fifteen small luxury hotels in the Caribbean’ by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine, Café Blu provided Scot with worthwhile experience in Caribbean and Spanish cuisine. Not wanting to give up Caribbean life, Scot then took an Executive Chef position in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. While in St. Thomas, Chef Scot was introduced to local West Indian’s culture and cuisine, seen today in his popular Crab Cakes and Pineapple Salsa.
Upon moving back to North Carolina, he took the Executive Chef position at Kiva Grill in Wilmington. While at Kiva, Scot was able to combine both western and pacific rim with his southern heritage.Chef Scot has created for himself a well rounded culinary background that will allow him to give Walnut Creek members diverse, unique and creative menu items.
Scot and wife Barbara reside in Kinston.
